What is TOP50?
TOP50 is an amalgamation of entities from the public and private sectors and voluntary contributors to CSR and ESG. It celebrates milestones reached by companies or government entities in furthering the general goodwill of society and national development.
Therefore, the Top50 Socially Responsible companies include private resident or non-resident companies, local and international organisations, corporate sole and Corporation Aggregate, statutory bodies, international corporations, and development partners, etc., which carry out business and are aware of their obligations to society.
Objectives of Top50
- Increased awareness about the role of ESG and CSR in business and society
- To appeal to development partners to participate in ESG and CSR as an obligation
- Re- direct ESG towards national priorities such as Environmental repair and conservation.
- A Platform for engaging stakeholders as promoters and shareholders to prioritise ESG
- Enhance competitiveness in the provision of ESG services for better improvement.
- To develop the Ubci index, which will aid the policy makers in arriving at the percentage contribution to ESG as a ratio of the profitability level, etc
Strategy for Top 50
We leverage knowledge of environmental sustainability, corporate management, and media journalism to scale up interventions that promote socially responsible business operations across the public and private sectors.
This year’s theme is “Scaling ESG and CSR to ensure community participation and sustainable, responsible business”
Requirements for Top50
- Should be registered with URSB for 5 years
- Be a company: private or public; Resident or non-resident with a registered office in Uganda.
- A scheduled corporation’s sole or aggregate
- Any statutory body with the capacity to act in its name.
- A business enterprise: Micro, Small, or Medium
- Any participant shall disclose the expenditure on environmental sustainability for the preceding 5-year period. This has to be supported by video and documentary evidence and corroborated with the physical field survey.
- The requirements in (1) above will not apply to entities or companies that merged or were acquired in the past 5years or scheduled corporations that got listed within or a lesser period.
- Ready to contribute to the success of the event.
